Human Placenta Contains Neurotensin: Immunohistochemical Evidence
نویسنده
چکیده
The human placenta exhibits unique structural and multifunctional features. It is known to have the capacity to synthesize, store and secrete hormones of the hypothalamohypophyseal axis, but the existence of neurotransmitters and neuropeptides in the human placenta has attracted a great deal of attention. This is especially important when it is considered that the placenta is a non-innervated organ. During extensive investigations on the human trophoblast, we conceived that it would be interesting to study whether the placenta contains neurotensin, a tridecapeptide first detected in bovine hypothalamic extracts. The present contribution describes immunohistochemical evidence for the presence of neurotensin in the villous cytotroblasts of the early human placenta.

Neurotensin Co-Expressed in Orexin-Producing Neurons in the Lateral Hypothalamus Plays an Important Role in Regulation of Sleep/Wakefulness States
Both orexin and neurotensin are expressed in the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) and have been implicated in the regulation of feeding, motor activity and the reward system. A double label immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization studies showed that neurotensin colocalizes with orexin in neurons of the LHA. Pharmacological studies suggested that neurotensin excites orexin-producing neurons ...

Pregnancy is associated with hemostatic challenges that may lead to thrombosis. Heparin cofactor II (HCII) is a glycosaminoglycan-dependent thrombin inhibitor present in both maternal and fetal plasma. HCII activity increases during pregnancy, and HCII levels are significantly decreased in women with severe pre-eclampsia. Dermatan sulfate (DS) specifically activates HCII and is abundant in the ...
متن کاملA lyophilized peptide radiopharmaceutical kit to target neurotensin receptor for tumor imaging
Introduction: Neurotensin (NT) is a tridecapeptide that binds specifically to neurotensin receptors. Several forms of cancer, including small cell lung cancer, colon, pancreatic and prostate carcinomas especially exocrine pancreatic carcinomas express receptors for neurotensin peptide. Radiolabeled neurotensin derivatives with a high affinity for these receptors might be used for scintigraphy. ...
متن کاملDorsomedial SCN neuronal subpopulations subserve different functions in human dementia.
The suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN) are necessary and sufficient for the maintenance of circadian rhythms in primate and other mammalian species. The human dorsomedial SCN contains populations of non-species-specific vasopressin and species-specific neurotensin neurons. We made time-series recordings of core body temperature and locomotor activity in 19 elderly, male, end-stage dementia patients a...
متن کاملThe cytoplasmic 60 kDa progesterone receptor isoform predominates in the human amniochorion and placenta at term
BACKGROUND The mechanism that initiates human parturition has been proposed to be 'functional progesterone withdrawal' whereby the 116 kDa B-isoform of the progesterone receptor (PR-B) switches in favour of the 94 kDa A-isoform (PR-A) in reproductive tissues. Recently, other PR isoforms, PR-S, PR-C and PR-M generated from the same gene have been identified and partially characterised. METHODS...
